Does the Colour of the Street Light Make a Difference?
Studies in Glasgow and Japan have shown that blue lights seem to have a calming effect. Sources have observed that crime surprisingly decreased in downtown Glasgow after blue street lights were installed. In Japanese train station suicides were high and increasing. After installation of blue lights the number of suicides dropped noticeably. One possible theory is that the short wavelength blue light produces serotonin creating a calming effect on pedestrians. Who knew?
